Serenity Clinic's psychiatric assessment is the starting point for all new patients and forms the core of the clinic's mental health panel offering. The first consultation is a confidential, in-depth session — typically 60 to 90 minutes — during which the consulting psychiatrist takes a detailed psychiatric history, explores the patient's symptoms, life context, occupational functioning, relationships, and sleep patterns. Standardised validated instruments may be used to quantify symptom severity across domains such as depression (PHQ-9), anxiety (GAD-7), and attention (ADHD rating scales). Where indicated, the assessment may include referral for psychological testing or neuropsychological evaluation to support differential diagnosis. Conditions routinely assessed include major depressive disorder, generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety, OCD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, adult ADHD, insomnia, and schizophrenia spectrum disorders. The psychiatrist synthesises findings into a formulation and works collaboratively with the patient to develop a personalised treatment plan, which may involve psychiatric medication, evidence-based psychotherapy (CBT, ACT, DBT-informed approaches), lifestyle modifications, and coordinated care with other allied health professionals such as psychologists or occupational therapists. Follow-up appointments are scheduled at intervals appropriate to clinical need. The clinic is led by Dr Poon Ngar Yee (Medical Director, MBBS UK, MMed Psychiatry, MRCPsych UK) and Dr Chua Tze-Ern (Senior Consultant Psychiatrist, MBBS, MMed Psychiatry), both of whom bring NHS-level training and Singapore specialist registration to their practice.
