The Primary Health Screening at Samsung Medical Center condenses a broad diagnostic evaluation into a single morning visit. It follows the Korean health screening model, which routinely includes sedated upper endoscopy as a standard component rather than reserving it for symptomatic patients, reflecting the country's proactive approach to gastric cancer detection. The laboratory component draws a comprehensive blood panel covering complete blood count, liver function markers including AST, ALT, GGT, and alkaline phosphatase, kidney function through creatinine and blood urea nitrogen, a full lipid profile with total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides, fasting glucose, HbA1c for longer-term glycaemic trends, uric acid, and inflammatory markers. Thyroid function is assessed via TSH and free T4, and hepatitis B and C serology is included as standard. Four tumour markers are measured: AFP for liver malignancy, CEA as a general gastrointestinal marker, CA 19-9 for pancreatic and biliary screening, and PSA for prostate cancer risk stratification in men. The sedated gastroscopy (esophagogastroduodenoscopy) examines the oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum under conscious sedation, allowing direct visualisation of the mucosal lining and biopsy of any suspicious lesions. Abdominal ultrasound evaluates the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys, and spleen for structural abnormalities. A chest X-ray screens the lung fields and cardiac silhouette, while a resting 12-lead electrocardiogram assesses cardiac rhythm. The women's version of this package adds mammography for those over 35, breast ultrasound, pelvic examination, Pap smear, HPV screening, and reproductive hormone markers including estradiol, FSH, and CA-125. All results are compiled into a bilingual Korean-English report, with a same-day physician consultation to review findings and recommend any follow-up testing. The International Health Center assigns a coordinator to guide overseas patients through registration, each testing station, and the final consultation.
