Type

Root Canal

Duration

2 hours

Re-treatment of a tooth that has had a previous root canal but remains symptomatic or re-infected. Working under the microscope, the dentist reopens the tooth, removes the old filling material and any obstacles, then cleans, disinfects and re-seals the canals to give the tooth another chance before considering extraction. Because the work is more demanding than a first treatment, it is priced slightly higher per canal.

Root canal retreatment is needed when a previously treated tooth fails to heal or becomes re-infected — sometimes years later — because a canal was missed, the seal has broken down, or new decay has let bacteria back in. At Salvus IDC this delicate work is carried out under the operating microscope, which is particularly important for retreatment because the dentist must carefully remove old root-filling material, navigate around previous restorations and find any canals that were not treated the first time. The tooth is anaesthetised and isolated, and existing crowns or core material may need to be removed to reach the canals. The dentist then takes out the old filling, re-cleans and disinfects the entire canal system, addresses any missed anatomy and re-seals it. Where a prefabricated post or a separated instrument is blocking the canal, removing it is a separate, more intricate step that the clinic prices transparently from 290 zł depending on difficulty. Retreatment is generally more time-consuming than an initial root canal, which is reflected in the modestly higher per-canal fee. When successful it allows a natural tooth to be kept rather than extracted and replaced, and the tooth will usually need a new core build-up and crown afterwards to protect it. The dentist will discuss the realistic chances of success for your particular tooth and the alternatives before proceeding.
