Pico laser is the first-line option for most pigmentation cases: its ultra-short pulse width minimises heat spread and the risk of post-treatment paradoxical darkening (a known risk of slower devices on Asian skin). For patients with melasma, a notoriously complex condition influenced by sun exposure, hormones, and heat, a combination approach is used — low-fluence Pico laser passes, strict sun protection (SPF 50+), and topical depigmenting agents (hydroquinone-based or non-hydroquinone alternatives) are layered for sustained results. IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) may be selected for superficial vascular and pigment components in suitable Fitzpatrick skin types. The clinic's approach to Asian skin (Fitzpatrick III–V) is particularly considered, recognising that aggressive settings carry a higher PIH risk in darker skin tones. Post-treatment care guidance, including sun avoidance and appropriate moisturisation, is integral to every pigmentation protocol.
