Pigmentation removal at RVmedCentrum uses a picosecond Q-switch Nd:YAG laser to fragment melanin deposits — age spots, sun damage, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and melasma — without damaging surrounding skin. The ultra-short picosecond pulses deliver a photomechanical effect that shatters the pigment granules into tiny particles cleared by the immune system, achieving targeted brightening with significantly less thermal collateral damage than conventional nanosecond Q-switch lasers.
Skin pigmentation problems — age spots (solar lentigines), sun-induced damage (photoaging), post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after acne, and melasma — can be effectively treated with Q-switch laser technology. RVmedCentrum's picosecond Nd:YAG laser represents the current standard of care: ultra-short pulses measured in trillionths of a second deliver energy so rapidly that melanin granules shatter photomechanically rather than thermally, minimising the risk of post-treatment hyperpigmentation and scarring compared with older nanosecond devices. The Nd:YAG wavelength at 1064 nm and its 532 nm harmonic target melanin selectively, with the 532 nm used preferentially for superficial brown pigment (as found in solar lentigines and flat seborrhoeic keratoses) and 1064 nm for deeper pigmentation or for treating darker skin tones where less epidermal absorption is needed to avoid PIH. The treatment typically produces visible fading of discrete pigmented lesions over 2 to 4 weeks post-session as the immune system clears the fragmented melanin. Flat, discrete lesions (age spots) typically require 1 to 3 sessions; diffuse photodamage or melasma may require 3 to 6 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Post-treatment: mild redness for a few hours to a few days. SPF 50+ sunscreen is mandatory for the duration of the treatment course and for 4 weeks thereafter — unprotected sun exposure risks immediate repigmentation. Avoid tanning beds throughout the treatment period.
