Although dentists aim to preserve natural teeth wherever possible, extraction is sometimes the right choice — for a tooth that is severely decayed or broken, badly infected, loosened by gum disease, or an impacted wisdom tooth that is causing pain or crowding. At Royal Dent extractions are handled by oral surgeons, which is particularly valuable for more difficult cases such as teeth that are broken at the gumline or buried in the bone. Simple removal of a fully erupted tooth is straightforward and priced from a set starting figure, while the surgical removal of an impacted or retained tooth, where the gum and sometimes a little bone must be managed, falls into a higher published range. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic so the area is fully numb; for surgical cases the tooth may be removed in sections to protect the surrounding bone. Afterwards you are given detailed aftercare advice to support healing and reduce the chance of complications such as a dry socket, and mild swelling or discomfort for a few days is normal. Where a tooth in the visible or chewing zone is removed, the surgeon can discuss replacement options — an implant, bridge or denture — so a plan is in place to maintain function and appearance, and because the clinic offers implant and prosthetic care in-house this can be coordinated smoothly.
