The toxin temporarily interrupts the chemical signal between nerves and the eccrine sweat glands in the treated zone, which is commonly associated with a substantial reduction in local sweat production while the rest of the body continues to thermoregulate normally. A grid of fine injections is then placed just under the skin; the underarms usually take a single ampoule, while larger or paired areas may need two. The procedure itself takes around twenty to thirty minutes, with little downtime beyond possible minor tenderness or small marks. The effect typically begins within several days and is associated with a duration of around four to six months before sweating gradually returns, at which point the treatment can be repeated.
