Glutathione is a tripeptide (glutamate-cysteine-glycine) produced naturally in every cell, serving as the body's primary antioxidant defence system. It neutralises free radicals, regenerates other antioxidants (including vitamins C and E), supports Phase II liver detoxification, and plays a critical role in immune cell function — particularly lymphocyte proliferation and natural killer cell activity. Oral glutathione supplementation has notoriously poor bioavailability. The molecule is a peptide, meaning it is largely broken down by digestive enzymes before reaching the bloodstream.
