The Detox infusion at RC Clinic is formulated around the body's two primary detoxification systems: Phase I (cytochrome P450 enzymes that activate toxins for processing) and Phase II (conjugation pathways — primarily glutathione conjugation, glucuronidation, and sulphation — that render activated toxins water-soluble for excretion). Both phases require specific cofactors and substrates that can become depleted under heavy toxic load. The formulation centres on glutathione (the primary substrate for Phase II conjugation and the body's most abundant intracellular antioxidant) and alpha-lipoic acid (which regenerates depleted glutathione, chelates heavy metals, and provides broad-spectrum antioxidant protection in both aqueous and lipid environments). Supporting nutrients enhance the overall detoxification capacity and protect tissues from the oxidative stress generated during toxin processing. Modern urban living involves continuous low-level exposure to environmental toxins: air pollution particulates, plasticisers (BPA, phthalates), pesticide residues, heavy metals in water and food, and volatile organic compounds from building materials and cleaning products.
