Duration

1 hour

A seven-biomarker digestive health assessment combining blood and stool samples to screen for gut inflammation, H. pylori infection, coeliac markers, and bowel cancer risk. Includes calprotectin, gastrin-17, pepsinogens, qFIT, and a GP discussion. Results in 5 working days.

Digestive symptoms are extremely common yet frequently tolerated for years before investigation. This panel takes a systematic approach to screening the major pathologies that affect the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract, using a combination of blood markers and stool analysis that together cover more diagnostic ground than either sample type alone. Calprotectin is a faecal marker of intestinal inflammation that helps distinguish between inflammatory bowel disease and functional conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome — a differentiation that commonly takes months or years through standard GP pathways. The quantitative faecal immunochemical test (qFIT) screens for occult blood in the stool, the same principle used in NHS bowel cancer screening programmes. H. pylori antibody testing screens for the bacterium responsible for the majority of gastric and duodenal ulcers. Gastrin-17 and pepsinogens I and II provide information about stomach lining health and acid production that can indicate atrophic gastritis or increased gastric cancer risk. The appointment is longer than standard blood tests — approximately 40 minutes plus check-in — because it involves both a blood draw and preparation for the stool sample component, which is collected at home after the clinic visit. A 6-hour fast is required, and a protein drink containing lactose is consumed in the clinic to stimulate gastrin-17 for accurate measurement. The included GP discussion ensures findings are properly interpreted and appropriate follow-up arranged.
