Thoracic Spine MRI

Type

MRI Scan

Duration

25 min

MRI of the thoracic spine covering the twelve thoracic vertebrae, discs, and spinal cord. Assesses degenerative changes, compression fractures, and thoracic disc pathology.

The thoracic spine MRI covers the T1-T12 segment, which is less commonly symptomatic than the cervical or lumbar regions but important for evaluating mid-back pain, suspected compression fractures in osteoporotic patients, and thoracic disc herniations. The protocol includes sagittal and axial sequences with STIR imaging to detect bone marrow oedema. This region is also relevant for screening in patients with known malignancy, where vertebral body metastases may present as incidental findings. RADTOP's thoracic spine protocol can be combined with cervical and lumbar scans for a comprehensive spinal assessment in a single visit.
