Type
CT Angiography
Duration
30 min
Contrast-enhanced multislice CT imaging of arteries and vessels throughout the body. Produces coloured 3D vascular maps without probe insertion. Used for aneurysm detection, arterial occlusion assessment, and renal or peripheral vascular disease.
CT angiography at Radiologie München uses an intravenous iodine-based contrast agent and multislice CT technology to produce high-resolution three-dimensional maps of the arterial system. The technique can visualise vessels in the head and neck, the aorta, renal arteries, and pelvic and leg vessels without inserting probes into the arteries themselves — making it a substantially less invasive approach than conventional catheter angiography. The iodine contrast is administered through a peripheral IV line in the arm, and the patient lies supine on the scanner couch while the device acquires images over a short acquisition window. Post-processing software reconstructs the raw cross-sectional data into coloured vessel-specific views and rotatable three-dimensional representations that the reporting radiologist uses to grade stenosis severity, detect aneurysmal dilatation, and map anatomical variants. Typical indications include suspected aortic aneurysm, peripheral arterial occlusive disease causing leg pain on walking, renal artery stenosis contributing to hypertension, and head and neck vessel assessment prior to surgery or interventional procedures. The examination takes a maximum of 30 minutes, with total time at the practice around 60 minutes including preparation. Before the appointment, current kidney function (creatinine) and thyroid (TSH) values are required — usually from within the preceding six weeks — to confirm suitability for iodine contrast administration. Patients should be well hydrated before and after the scan. The practice performs CT angiography across its Munich locations on weekdays between 08:00 and 18:00, with appointments booked via Doctolib or by telephone.
