Type
MRI Scan
Duration
25 min
MRI of the paranasal sinuses for evaluating chronic sinusitis, polyps, mucosal disease, and pre-surgical anatomy without radiation exposure. Includes personal consultation.
This MRI examination targets the frontal, maxillary, ethmoid, and sphenoid sinuses along with the nasal cavity and ostiomeatal complex. Unlike CT, MRI provides superior soft-tissue contrast to differentiate between mucosal thickening, retained secretions, polyps, and more concerning masses such as inverted papilloma or malignancy — all without ionizing radiation. The protocol includes coronal and axial T1 and T2-weighted sequences, with STIR to highlight mucosal inflammation. The radiologist maps the extent of sinus disease, documents any anatomical variants relevant to endoscopic surgery (such as septal deviation, concha bullosa, or Haller cells), and evaluates the relationship of sinus pathology to the orbit and anterior cranial fossa. This scan is particularly useful for patients with chronic rhinosinusitis unresponsive to medical treatment, those being evaluated for endoscopic sinus surgery, and patients where repeated CT exposure should be minimized. Results include a same-day personal consultation and online image access.
