Type
MRI Scan
Duration
25 min
MRI of the cervical spine (C1-C7) assessing intervertebral discs, spinal cord, nerve roots, and facet joints. No referral required for self-pay patients.
The cervical spine MRI at Radiologie Dr. Jung provides high-resolution imaging of the seven cervical vertebrae, intervertebral discs, spinal cord, exiting nerve roots, and surrounding soft tissues. The open-bore scanner design is particularly beneficial for cervical spine imaging, as many patients can have their head positioned near or outside the bore opening. The protocol includes sagittal and axial T1 and T2-weighted sequences, with STIR for bone marrow oedema detection. The radiologist systematically evaluates each disc level for herniations and protrusions, assesses the spinal canal diameter and cord signal, documents foraminal narrowing that may compress exiting nerve roots, and notes facet joint arthropathy and ligamentous changes. This scan is commonly requested by patients with persistent neck pain, upper limb radiculopathy (numbness, tingling, or weakness in the arms), post-whiplash assessment, and pre-surgical planning. Dr. Jung provides a personal consultation immediately after the scan to discuss the key findings.
