Tree Nut Allergy Test Panel with Reflex to Components

Type

Blood Testing

Biomarkers

Duration

Measures IgE antibodies to nine tree nut allergens to help determine nut allergies.

This test measures immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies produced in the blood in response to certain peanut and tree nut allergens. It helps determine whether you have an allergy to almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, peanuts, pecans, pistachios, or walnuts. If levels for peanut, hazelnut, walnut, brazil nut, or cashew nut are abnormal, additional component panels are performed at no extra cost. A healthcare provider will review results with your medical history to diagnose an allergy and prescribe medication if needed.

Key Details

Allergens Tested
20–200+ substances (varies by panel)
Fasting Required
No
Sample Type
Blood draw
Turnaround
5–10 business days
Common Use
Allergy mapping, elimination diet guidance

Who Is This For?

People experiencing unexplained digestive issues, skin problems, or chronic fatigue that may be food-related. Anyone with known allergies who wants comprehensive mapping of their triggers. Parents investigating potential food sensitivities in children. People considering an elimination diet and wanting data to guide which foods to remove.

What's Included

IgE and/or IgG antibody measurement
Panel of common allergens (varies by provider)
Results ranked by reactivity level

Preparation Required

No fasting required. Continue eating your normal diet for at least 2–4 weeks before testing — avoiding suspected trigger foods can cause false negatives. Inform the clinic of any antihistamines or immunosuppressants you're taking, as these can affect results.

Biomarkers Tested

11
Globulin g/dL

A group of proteins in blood including antibodies (immunoglobulins), transport proteins, and enzymes. Elevated globulin can indicate chronic infection, inflammation, or blood cancers. Calculated by subtracting albumin from total protein.

Almond kU/L

Measures IgE antibodies specific to almond.

Brazil Nut kU/L

Measures IgE antibodies specific to Brazil nut.

Cashew nut Positive/Negative

Specific IgE antibodies to cashew nut allergen.

Hazelnut kU/L

Measures IgE antibodies specific to hazelnut.

Macadamia nut Positive/Negative

Specific IgE antibodies to macadamia nut allergen.

Peanut kU/L

Measures IgE antibodies specific to peanut.

Pecan nut Positive/Negative

Specific IgE antibodies to pecan nut allergen.

Pistachio Positive/Negative

Specific IgE antibodies to pistachio allergen.

Walnut Positive/Negative

Specific IgE antibodies to walnut allergen.

Immunoglobulin E (IgE) ng/mL

Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is a protein associated with allergic reactions that is normally found in very small amounts in the blood. IgE functions as part of the body's immune system (its defence against 'intruders').
