Dental Implant (Nobel Biocare)

Type

Dental Implants

Duration

2 hours

A dental implant replaces a missing tooth with a small titanium post placed into the jawbone, which acts as an artificial root for a later crown, bridge or denture. Uśmiech uses Nobel Biocare implants and plans each case on its in-house 3D CBCT scanner so the position is mapped before surgery. As a surgery-led practice with a consultant anaesthetist on the team, placement can be carried out under local anaesthetic or, for anxious patients, sedation. Single implants and mini-implant systems to stabilise loose dentures are both offered.

A dental implant is a titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone to take the place of a missing tooth's root. Once the surrounding bone has healed around it — a process called osseointegration that usually takes several weeks to a few months — the implant can carry a crown to replace one tooth, support a bridge, or anchor a denture so it no longer slips. Implants are associated with preserving the jawbone in the gap, where bone is otherwise gradually lost after a tooth is removed. At Uśmiech the process starts with an examination and a three-dimensional CBCT scan on the clinic's own cone-beam tomograph, which shows the height and width of available bone and the position of nerves and the sinus. This planning step lets the surgeon choose the right implant and place it accurately. The practice fits Nobel Biocare implants, a long-established system. Placement is a minor surgical procedure performed under local anaesthetic; because a specialist anaesthetist is part of the team, nervous patients or more complex cases can be treated under sedation or general anaesthesia. A separate appointment later uncovers the healed implant and fits a healing screw before the final restoration is made. For people whose lower or upper dentures move, the clinic also offers mini-implant systems — typically four implants in the lower jaw or six in the upper — that clip the denture firmly in place. Suitability, the number of implants and whether any bone preparation is needed are assessed at consultation; implant treatment is planned individually and is not suitable during active gum infection.
