Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth that is too damaged, decayed or problematic to save. At Pro Medical Clinic Dent extractions are performed under local anaesthetic by the surgical team, ranging from straightforward removals to surgical extraction of wisdom or impacted teeth. Anxious patients can be treated under sedation. Where an implant is planned for the site, bone preservation or grafting can be carried out at the same time. Aftercare instructions are provided to support healing.
About this treatment
An extraction removes a tooth that cannot be saved or is causing problems — for example through extensive decay, advanced gum disease, a fracture below the gum, or impaction where a tooth (commonly a wisdom tooth) is unable to erupt properly. While saving a natural tooth is always preferred, removal is sometimes the most sensible option to relieve pain, clear infection or prevent damage to neighbouring teeth.
At Pro Medical Clinic Dent extractions are carried out under local anaesthetic by the oral surgery team. Simple extractions of a visible tooth are quicker, while surgical removal of an impacted or broken tooth — such as a buried wisdom tooth — takes longer and may involve sectioning the tooth and placing a few dissolvable stitches. The clinic's on-site imaging helps assess root shape and the position of impacted teeth and nearby structures before surgery.…
Where the extracted tooth is to be replaced with an implant, the clinic can carry out socket preservation or bone augmentation at the same appointment to maintain the bone for future treatment, quoted separately. You will be given clear aftercare instructions to manage bleeding, swelling and healing, and the dentist will discuss replacement options — implant, bridge or denture — so the gap can be restored if you wish. Suitability and any medical…
