Implants are a long-term option for replacing one or more missing teeth and may help preserve the surrounding bone, which can shrink after tooth loss. The titanium implant is then placed under local anaesthetic, with inhalation sedation or anaesthesiologist-supervised sedation available for patients who feel anxious. Where the bone is too thin or shallow, the clinic can carry out bone reconstruction or a closed or open sinus lift to build adequate support, quoted separately. After a healing phase of typically a few months, the implant is restored with a custom crown. Implants are generally suited to adults with good oral health and sufficient bone; smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and gum disease can affect healing and are reviewed beforehand. The dentist will confirm your suitability, the number of appointments and the full cost — including the restoring crown and any grafting — at the planning stage.
