Whole Body MRI

Type

Full Body Checkup

Duration

1 hour

Comprehensive whole-body MRI covering the head, spine, abdomen, pelvis, and major joints in a single extended session. Provides a radiation-free full-body screening baseline for early detection of tumours, structural abnormalities, and organ pathology.

The whole-body MRI at PrivatMRT Berlin is the practice's most comprehensive diagnostic offering, combining multiple anatomical regions into a single extended scanning session on the Siemens 1.5T scanner. The examination typically covers the head and brain, the cervical spine, the thorax (mediastinal structures), the upper and lower abdomen (including liver, kidneys, pancreas, spleen, adrenal glands, gallbladder), the pelvis (including bladder, prostate or uterus), and the lumbar spine. The primary purpose of a whole-body MRI is early detection -- identifying abnormalities at a stage when they are most treatable and often before symptoms develop. The scan can detect solid tumours, cysts, and benign masses across all covered organ systems. In the brain, it screens for space-occupying lesions and vascular anomalies. In the spine, it reveals disc herniations, canal stenosis, and vertebral body pathology. The abdominal sweep covers the full range of liver, renal, pancreatic, and adrenal findings described in the standalone abdomen MRI. A whole-body MRI does not replace organ-specific high-resolution sequences for known clinical questions -- for example, a dedicated knee MRI with a joint-specific coil provides finer detail than the corresponding region in a whole-body protocol. However, as a screening tool for individuals without specific symptoms, the whole-body approach offers unmatched breadth of coverage in a single visit. The examination takes approximately 60 minutes. Patients should plan for a slightly longer overall appointment to allow for positioning adjustments between body regions. Fasting for four hours is recommended for optimal abdominal image quality. No ionising radiation is used. The detailed radiologist report covers each anatomical region systematically and provides a comprehensive health baseline that can be compared against future scans to track changes over time.
