Type
MRI Scan
Duration
35 min
MRI of the abdominal organs including the liver, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, gallbladder, and adrenal glands. Screens for tumours, cysts, organ enlargement, and structural abnormalities across the upper and lower abdominal compartments.
Abdominal MRI at PrivatMRT Berlin provides cross-sectional imaging of the major abdominal organs without ionising radiation. The examination covers the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, adrenal glands, and the major abdominal vessels. Depending on the clinical question, the scan may extend to include the pelvic organs (bladder, uterus/prostate, ovaries). The liver is assessed for focal lesions -- cysts, haemangiomas, focal nodular hyperplasia, and hepatic malignancies are among the most common findings. Diffuse liver disease including steatosis (fatty liver) and iron overload can be quantified using specialised sequences. The gallbladder and bile ducts are evaluated for stones, wall thickening, and dilatation. Pancreatic imaging can identify cysts (including intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms -- IPMNs), solid lesions, and inflammatory changes. Renal imaging detects simple and complex cysts (classified using the Bosniak system), solid renal masses, and hydronephrosis. The adrenal glands are assessed for adenomas and other masses. The spleen is evaluated for size and focal lesions. Abdominal lymph nodes and the abdominal aorta are also reviewed. This scan is valuable for individuals who want a radiation-free assessment of their abdominal organs, whether as a standalone screening or to follow up on abnormal blood tests suggesting organ dysfunction. The examination takes approximately 35 minutes. Fasting for four hours beforehand is recommended to reduce gallbladder contraction and bowel motion artefact. No contrast agent is used in the standard self-pay protocol unless clinically indicated. The radiologist report provides a structured organ-by-organ assessment.
