Type
MRI Scan
Duration
10 min
Gadolinium-based contrast agent administered intravenously during an MRI scan. Enhances visualisation of vascular structures, tumours, and inflammatory processes. Requires medical referral.
Intravenous gadolinium contrast can be added to any MRI scan at PrivatHospitalet Danmark for 840 DKK (before 6% surcharge). The contrast agent highlights areas of increased vascularity, blood-brain barrier breakdown, and active inflammation, improving the diagnostic yield for a range of conditions including brain tumours, multiple sclerosis, joint infections, and vascular malformations. Contrast-enhanced MRI requires a medical referral — patients cannot self-refer for contrast studies. The referring physician should provide relevant clinical information and confirm that there are no contraindications (severe renal impairment, known gadolinium allergy, or pregnancy). The contrast is administered through a peripheral intravenous cannula during the scan. This is listed as a supplementary add-on and is charged in addition to the base scan price. For example, a contrast-enhanced brain MRI would cost 2,625 + 840 = 3,465 DKK before the 6% surcharge. The whole-body MRI is performed without contrast by default.
