Lumbar Spine MRI

Type

MRI Scan

Duration

30 min

1.5T MRI of the lumbosacral spine covering L1-S1 discs, nerve roots, and facet joints. The most common spinal scan for lower back pain and sciatica. No referral required.

The lumbosacral spine MRI at PrivatHospitalet Danmark provides detailed imaging of the lumbar vertebrae, intervertebral discs, spinal canal, and neural foramina from L1 through S1. The protocol includes sagittal T1, T2, and STIR sequences plus axial T2-weighted images through each disc level. The radiologist documents disc morphology at every level, grades central and foraminal stenosis, and reports on facet joint hypertrophy, ligamentum flavum thickening, and any bone marrow signal abnormalities. The STIR sequence is sensitive to oedema, which can indicate acute vertebral fractures, infection, or inflammatory spondyloarthropathy. Priced at 2,625 DKK as a single-region scan (before 6% surcharge). For patients with symptoms spanning multiple spinal levels, the entire spine package covers cervical, thoracic, and lumbar segments at 6,300 DKK. Alternatively, the back package at 3,650 DKK includes a specialist consultation and MRI of one spinal region. Additional spinal regions on the same day cost 1,313 DKK each.
