Type
MRI Scan
Duration
30 min
1.5T MRI of a single hip joint assessing the labrum, articular cartilage, surrounding tendons, and bony structures. No referral required for native scans.
The hip MRI protocol at PrivatHospitalet Danmark evaluates the acetabular labrum, femoral head articular cartilage, hip joint capsule, and surrounding musculotendinous structures including the gluteal tendons and iliopsoas. Coronal, axial, and sagittal sequences with T1 and fluid-sensitive weighting provide comprehensive assessment of both intra-articular and extra-articular pathology. Common indications include groin pain of uncertain origin, suspected labral tears (particularly in younger athletic patients), femoroacetabular impingement assessment, early avascular necrosis of the femoral head, and greater trochanteric pain syndrome. The scan also demonstrates the hip joint in enough detail to support pre-operative planning for arthroscopic or open surgical procedures. For patients who require MR arthrography — where contrast is injected directly into the hip joint under fluoroscopic guidance for more detailed labral assessment — a medical referral is required and the examination is priced at 5,670 DKK. The standard native hip MRI is 2,625 DKK before the 6% insurance surcharge.
