Ear Correction Surgery (Otoplasty)

Otoplasty at PRIMED Clinic corrects protruding or asymmetric ears by reshaping the ear cartilage through an incision hidden behind the ear. The clinic performs the operation on an outpatient basis, with MUDr. Jiří Štětinský — an FN Ostrava specialist in ear and eyelid corrections — among the surgeons performing it.

Protruding ears are a common congenital trait caused by an underdeveloped antihelical fold or an overly deep conchal bowl, and they are a frequent source of self-consciousness from childhood onward. Otoplasty corrects the underlying cartilage architecture: through an incision concealed in the crease behind the ear, the surgeon scores and sutures the cartilage to recreate the natural antihelical fold and, where needed, set the conchal bowl closer to the head. Both ears are usually treated in one session to guarantee symmetry, even when only one appears prominent. At PRIMED Clinic the operation is performed ambulantly — patients go home the same day — under local anaesthesia for adults and adolescents, taking roughly 1–1.5 hours for both ears. A padded head bandage protects the new ear position for the first days, followed by an elastic headband worn at night for several weeks to prevent the ears folding forward during sleep. Discomfort is modest and managed with standard analgesics; bruising and swelling settle within two weeks, and sport (especially contact sport) waits about a month. The reshaped cartilage holds its new position permanently. The behind-ear scar fades to a fine line that is effectively invisible in daily life.
