Type
MRI Scan
Duration
30 min
A standalone MRI of the knee joint, assessing ligaments, menisci, cartilage, and surrounding structures for tears, degeneration, and other abnormalities. Conducted at a partner facility in Vienna with specialist radiologist review.
Knee MRI is the gold standard for non-invasive assessment of internal knee structures. The scan provides detailed imaging of the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments (ACL, PCL), medial and lateral menisci, articular cartilage surfaces, collateral ligaments, and the bone marrow of the femur, tibia, and patella. Common findings include meniscal tears (both traumatic and degenerative), ligament sprains and complete tears, chondral defects and early osteoarthritis, baker's cysts, bone bruising, and tendinopathy. For active individuals and athletes, a knee MRI can clarify the extent of an injury and guide treatment decisions -- from conservative physiotherapy to surgical intervention. The scan takes approximately 30 minutes and uses no ionising radiation. Prescan arranges the appointment at a partner radiology facility in Vienna, and a specialist musculoskeletal radiologist reviews the images. The detailed findings report is provided to the patient and can be shared with their treating orthopaedic surgeon or physiotherapist.
