About this treatment

Dental crowns and bridges are fixed prosthetic restorations that cover damaged teeth or replace missing ones. A crown (or "cap") encases an entire tooth, restoring its shape, strength, and appearance. A bridge spans the gap left by one or more missing teeth, anchored by crowns on adjacent teeth. Modern materials include porcelain, zirconia, and e.max — all designed to match the color and translucency of natural teeth.

The process typically requires two visits: the first for tooth preparation, impressions, and a temporary restoration; the second for permanent placement. Same-day crowns using CAD/CAM technology (like CEREC) are increasingly available, allowing design, fabrication, and placement in a single appointment.

Who is this for?

People with cracked, worn, or severely decayed teeth that cannot be restored with a filling. Those with missing teeth wanting a fixed (non-removable) replacement. Anyone wanting to improve the appearance of discolored or misshapen teeth. Patients who have had root canal treatment and need a crown for protection.

Preparation required

Brush and floss thoroughly before your appointment. If you have dental anxiety, discuss sedation options with your dentist beforehand. Bring any dental X-rays or records from previous providers. Eat a light meal before — you may have numbness afterward that makes eating difficult.
