Coronary CT angiography with calcium scoring using Siemens Dual Source 2×128-slice CT. 170,000 HUF (≈€425). A negative result excludes coronary artery disease with 97–99% probability. No hospitalisation required.
Pozitron Medical Budapest delivers Cardio-CT on the Siemens Somatom Drive Dual Source CT — a scanner equipped with two independent rotating tube-detector systems operating simultaneously. This Dual Source architecture halves the time required to complete each cardiac cycle acquisition, producing sharp coronary images even at higher resting heart rates and reducing the frequency of beta-blocker premedication compared to single-source systems. The scanner acquires images in slices thinner than one millimetre and reconstructs the heart and coronary arteries in three dimensions. The examination provides two complementary pieces of information: coronary CT angiography (CTA) and the coronary artery calcium (CAC) score. The CTA component, performed after intravenous contrast injection, visualises the lumen of the left main, left anterior descending, left circumflex, and right coronary arteries in full. It can detect and characterise stenosis (the degree of luminal narrowing), plaque type (calcified, non-calcified, or mixed), coronary anomalies, and in-stent or bypass graft assessment. The Agatston calcium score, derived from the non-contrast phase, quantifies the total calcified plaque burden across all coronary artery territories — a number that independently predicts future cardiovascular events. The clinical value of a negative Cardio-CT is substantial: Pozitron Medical's published data states that a negative result excludes coronary artery disease or infarction risk with 97–99% probability. This allows many patients with atypical chest symptoms, palpitations, dyspnoea, or elevated cardiovascular risk factors to receive definitive reassurance — or, if the result is positive, directed referral for appropriate intervention — without the cost, procedural risk, and hospitalisation associated with invasive catheter angiography. Preparation: fasting for 4 hours, avoidance of caffeine (coffee, tea, energy drinks, cola) for 12–24 hours before the scan, and a normal-range renal function test (serum creatinine) not older than 30 days. Patients on metformin must suspend the medication 48 hours before and after the examination to protect renal function in combination with contrast agent. The scan itself takes 10–20 seconds of actual acquisition; the full appointment including preparation, cannulation, contrast delivery, and post-procedure monitoring is approximately 60–90 minutes. The Cardio-CT service is led by Dr. Kerecsen Gábor, a cardiologist and internist who personally reviews and interprets each study, discusses findings with patients, and outlines treatment pathways when abnormalities are detected. Reports are issued within 3–5 working days. Current promotional offer includes a free lung CT with each Cardio-CT booking at no additional cost. The examination is eligible for financing through Hungarian health savings accounts (egészségpénztár), with up to 20% of the cost recoverable via personal income tax rebate. Booking available online at medicall.cc or by phone at +36 1 505-8888. No hospital admission required.
