Full abdominoplasty removes excess skin and fat from the lower and central abdomen, tightens the abdominal muscles, and repositions the navel. At Plastická chirurgie A-Z Olomouc, the procedure is performed by board-certified microsurgeons for whom precision tissue handling is second nature. It is most suited to patients after significant weight loss or pregnancy who have achieved their goal weight but are left with loose, excess abdominal skin and weakened or separated (diastasis recti) abdominal muscles that cannot be corrected through exercise alone.
About this treatment
Full abdominoplasty is one of the most functionally transformative body-contouring procedures in plastic surgery. It addresses three distinct anatomical issues simultaneously: excess skin, including stretch marks below the navel; underlying fat deposits resistant to diet and exercise; and laxity or separation (diastasis recti) of the rectus abdominis muscles — a common post-pregnancy sequela.
The operation is performed under general anaesthesia and typically takes 2.5–3 hours. The main incision runs horizontally within the bikini line from hip to hip, low enough to be concealed by underwear or swimwear. A separate periumbilical incision allows the navel to be repositioned as the skin is redistributed. The surgeons at the clinic use surgical loupes to achieve fine-detail closure of the multilayered abdominal wall repair and the skin incision.
Muscle plication — the internal suturing of the rectus sheath to tighten separated or weakened muscles — is performed through the same incision and provides a firm, flat abdominal wall that is otherwise impossible to achieve post-pregnancy. This step is particularly valued by patients whose 'mummy tummy' protrudes despite a healthy body weight.
