Scar revision surgery exploits the plastic surgeon's expertise in wound geometry, tissue tension, and closure technique to replace an existing suboptimal scar with a finer, better-oriented one. The standard technique involves excision of the existing scar with a thin elliptical design, followed by meticulous wound closure in layers — deep absorbable sutures to take tension off the skin surface, and fine surface sutures or tissue glue to align the skin edges with minimal trauma. The result is a narrower scar whose wound edges are in precise apposition — the primary determinant of final scar width.

Preparation required
