Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) stem cell therapy harvests mesenchymal stem cells and growth factors from the patient's own pelvis to repair damaged cartilage and slow arthritis progression in joints.
About this treatment
BMAC (Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate) stem cell therapy is the most advanced regenerative treatment available at Pinnacle Orthopaedic Group, offering the potential for cartilage repair and structural tissue regeneration beyond what PRP or nStride APS can achieve. The procedure draws on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) — multipotent progenitor cells capable of differentiating into cartilage, bone, and soft tissue — harvested directly from the patient's own…
The process begins with a bone marrow aspiration from the posterior iliac crest of the pelvis, performed under local anaesthesia. The aspirate is then processed in a centrifuge to concentrate the stem cells, growth factors, and anti-inflammatory molecules into a potent biologic preparation. This BMAC solution is then injected into the target joint or applied during a cartilage repair surgical procedure, depending on the patient's individual treatment plan.
BMAC therapy holds promise for patients with early-to-moderate knee, hip, or shoulder osteoarthritis, cartilage defects, osteochondral lesions, and avascular necrosis (osteonecrosis) of the femoral head. The stem cells in the concentrate may stimulate the regeneration of hyaline-like cartilage tissue, help modulate the inflammatory environment of the joint, and promote local healing — potentially slowing the progression of arthritis and reducing the need…
