Dental Implants
Duration
2 hours
A bone-augmentation procedure that adds height to the upper jaw beneath the maxillary sinus so that dental implants can be placed where natural bone is too thin. The surgeon gently lifts the sinus floor membrane and packs bone-graft material into the space, which matures into a base able to support an implant. It is commonly needed for upper back teeth lost some time ago, and is planned in detail using a CBCT scan.
A sinus lift, or sinus-floor elevation, creates the bone height needed to place implants in the upper back jaw, where the maxillary sinus sits close above the ridge and natural bone is often insufficient — particularly when molars were lost years earlier and the bone has resorbed. At Stomatologia Pietrzyccy the procedure is performed by Dr Marcin Pietrzycki, whose hospital specialisation in oral surgery covers this kind of augmentation, and it is planned from a CBCT scan that shows the sinus anatomy and available bone in three dimensions. Under local anaesthesia, which is included in the fee, the surgeon carefully lifts the thin membrane lining the sinus floor and introduces bone-substitute graft material into the space created, sometimes alongside A-PRF growth factors prepared from the patient's own blood. Over the following months this graft matures into bone capable of anchoring an implant. Depending on how much height is required and the technique used, an implant may be placed at the same time or after a healing period. The wide price range reflects the variation between a modest, localised lift and more extensive augmentation. Sinus lifting is associated with making implant treatment possible in the upper jaw rather than being a treatment on its own; the need for it, the graft volume and the sequencing with implants are determined from the CBCT assessment and discussed at an implant consultation.
