Shockwave Therapy (RSWT)

Type

Shock Wave Therapy

Duration

20 min

Extracorporeal Radial Shockwave Therapy (RSWT) targeting chronic tendon, soft tissue, and joint conditions — a non-invasive, evidence-based treatment that stimulates tissue repair and relieves chronic pain without downtime.

PhysioActive offers Extracorporeal Radial Shockwave Therapy (RSWT), a clinically proven non-invasive modality for chronic musculoskeletal conditions that have not responded adequately to conventional physiotherapy alone. The treatment works through mechanotransduction — delivering targeted acoustic pressure waves into affected soft tissues to stimulate fibroblast and osteoblast activity, promote neovascularisation (new blood vessel formation), reduce chronic inflammation, break down calcific deposits, and modulate pain transmission through nerve activity changes. The result is accelerated tissue healing in tendons, ligaments, and muscles that have become chronically degenerated or calcified. At PhysioActive, shockwave therapy is delivered by AHPC-recognised physiotherapists and is integrated into a holistic rehabilitation plan rather than applied in isolation. Common conditions treated include plantar fasciitis and heel spur pain, Achilles tendinopathy, patellar tendinitis (jumper's knee), tennis and golfer's elbow, shoulder calcific tendonitis and frozen shoulder, knee osteoarthritis, iliotibial band syndrome, tibial stress syndrome, and chronic neck, shoulder, or back pain due to myofascial trigger points. Each session lasts approximately 10–20 minutes and is performed by positioning a handheld applicator over the target area with contact gel — the sensation is described as rhythmic tapping. Most patients with tendinopathy conditions respond positively after 1–3 sessions; chronic or complex cases may require up to 6 treatments spaced 1 week apart. There is no downtime: patients can return to daily activities immediately, with only mild temporary tenderness or redness at the treatment site. Shockwave therapy is available at both the Orchard and Jurong clinics. No referral is required, and the treatment is often covered by international health insurance through the clinic's direct billing partners.
