Cryolipolysis (fat freezing) non-surgical fat reduction targeting localised adipose deposits — flanks, abdomen, inner thighs, upper arms, or submental chin — using controlled cooling to induce apoptosis in fat cells without damaging the overlying skin.
Cryolipolysis is a non-invasive body contouring procedure based on the principle of cryolipolysis — the selective sensitivity of adipocytes (fat cells) to cold temperatures compared to surrounding skin, nerve, and muscle tissue. At Perfect Skin Berlin, the cryolipolysis applicator is applied to the target area and cools the tissue to approximately −5°C to −10°C. At this temperature, the adipocyte cell membrane loses its structural integrity and the cells enter apoptosis (programmed cell death) — a natural process that does not trigger inflammation or damage non-adipose tissue. Over the 8–12 weeks following treatment, the body's lymphatic system gradually clears the debris of the destroyed fat cells through normal metabolic processes. The treated area reduces in circumference as the fat layer thins — clinical studies on cryolipolysis devices have demonstrated an average fat layer reduction of 20–25% in the treated zone after a single session, as measured by ultrasound. The result is a permanent reduction in the number of adipocytes in the treated area; fat cells do not regenerate, making cryolipolysis results durable provided the patient's overall weight remains stable. The 45-minute session begins with the application of a protective gel pad to the target skin, after which the applicator is placed and begins drawing the tissue into the cooling chamber via vacuum suction. Patients experience intense cold and pressure for the first 5–10 minutes, after which the area becomes numb and the session is comfortable. Immediately after the applicator is removed, the practitioner manually massages the frozen tissue — this post-treatment massage has been shown in studies to improve fat reduction outcomes by up to 68% by breaking up the crystallised fat cells. Cryolipolysis is not a weight-loss treatment and is not appropriate for patients with significant generalised overweight. It is most effective for localised, pinchable fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise — the classic 'stubborn' areas. Suitable zones include the lower and upper abdomen, flanks, inner and outer thighs, upper arms, bra bulge, and submental (double chin) area. Results from one session are typically visible at 6–8 weeks, with full results at 12 weeks.
