Glutathione IV Therapy

Type

IV Vitamin Therapy

Duration

30 min

Intravenous glutathione infusion or push for antioxidant support, liver detoxification, skin brightening, and cellular protection. Glutathione is the body's primary endogenous antioxidant and a key driver of Phase II hepatic detoxification. IV delivery may support neutralization of oxidative stress markers, heavy metal conjugation, and immune cell function. Physician-supervised at Patients Medical, NYC.

Glutathione is a tripeptide (gamma-L-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine) synthesized in virtually every mammalian cell and considered the most important intracellular antioxidant in the body. Its primary biochemical roles include neutralizing reactive oxygen species and free radicals through its thiol group, regenerating oxidized forms of vitamins C and E back to their reduced (active) states, and serving as the primary substrate for glutathione S-transferase enzymes that catalyze Phase II hepatic conjugation of electrophilic xenobiotics — including environmental toxins, heavy metals, and drug metabolites — prior to their excretion. The liver contains the highest concentration of glutathione in the body, reflecting its central role in hepatic detoxification. Intravenous glutathione delivery at Patients Medical bypasses the poor oral bioavailability of glutathione — orally ingested glutathione is largely hydrolyzed in the gastrointestinal tract before absorption — achieving therapeutic plasma and tissue concentrations that may support endogenous antioxidant defense during periods of elevated oxidative load, illness recovery, or detoxification protocols. Clinically, glutathione IV therapy has been applied in the context of heavy metal chelation support, post-illness recovery, liver support, skin health and brightness (through proposed inhibition of melanin synthesis via tyrosinase pathway interaction), and as an adjunct to other functional medicine protocols. At Patients Medical, glutathione may be delivered as a standalone push (15–30 minutes) or incorporated into combination IV cocktails alongside vitamins, minerals, or chelating agents. The practice's physician team determines the appropriate protocol based on individual patient health assessment and treatment goals.
