Comprehensive in-house functional medicine laboratory offering an unusually broad diagnostic menu: CBC, comprehensive metabolic panel, lipid profile, heavy metal testing, genetic and DNA testing, allergy panels (food and environmental IgG/IgE), methylation testing, organic acid testing, oxidative stress markers, neurotransmitter testing, Lyme disease, mold, fatty acid analysis, amino acid profiling, iodine, vitamin and nutrient levels, and fertility panels. Physician-interpreted results with functional reference ranges. Located at 1148 Fifth Avenue, NYC.
Patients Medical's in-house functional medicine laboratory represents one of the most comprehensive diagnostic menus available at an integrative medicine clinic in New York City, covering both conventional clinical chemistry and specialty functional medicine testing that is typically unavailable at standard outpatient labs. Standard panels available include complete blood count (CBC) with differential, comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) assessing hepatic and renal function and electrolyte balance, and lipid profile. Specialty functional medicine diagnostics extend substantially beyond this base. Heavy metal testing offers blood and urine panels for lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, thallium, and a broader heavy metal screen. Genetic and pharmacogenomic testing assesses variants relevant to methylation capacity (MTHFR, COMT, MTR, MTRR), drug metabolism (CYP450 variants), and wellness-relevant single nucleotide polymorphisms. Methylation pathway testing measures homocysteine, folate, B12, and methylmalonic acid to assess functional methylation status. Food and environmental allergy panels measure IgG and IgE antibodies to broad food panels (commonly 90–200 foods) and aeroallergens. Organic acid testing (OAT) provides a urine-based survey of metabolic intermediates reflecting mitochondrial function, gut microbiome metabolism, neurotransmitter turnover, and B-vitamin cofactor adequacy — offering systemic insight into cellular metabolism that conventional chemistry panels do not provide. Neurotransmitter testing measures urinary excretion of serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, epinephrine, GABA, and glutamate. Lyme disease testing extends beyond standard ELISA to include Western blot and co-infection panels. Mold testing assesses mycotoxin exposure via urine or blood. Fatty acid profiles assess omega-3, omega-6, and saturated fatty acid balance. Amino acid profiles assess functional deficiencies in essential and conditionally essential amino acids. Iodine and thyroid-supportive micronutrient testing, fertility hormone panels, and oxidative stress biomarkers round out the menu. All results are interpreted by the physician team using functional reference ranges contextualized to optimal health rather than population statistical norms.
