A dental crown is a custom cap that covers a damaged, heavily filled or root-treated tooth, restoring its shape, strength and appearance. The process usually takes two stages: the tooth is prepared and an impression or scan taken, a temporary crown is fitted to protect it, and the laboratory makes the definitive crown, which is then cemented at a second visit.
