Injection Lipolysis (Aqualyx)

A non-surgical fat reduction treatment using Aqualyx — an injectable solution of deoxycholic acid that dissolves localised fat deposits. Targets stubborn pockets of fat resistant to diet and exercise, such as the submental area (double chin), jowls, flanks, or inner thighs.

Injection lipolysis at OT.CO Clinic uses Aqualyx, a CE-marked aqueous solution based on deoxycholic acid — a bile salt that the body naturally produces to emulsify dietary fats during digestion. When injected directly into subcutaneous fat deposits, Aqualyx disrupts the cell membranes of adipocytes (fat cells), causing them to release their lipid contents. The dissolved fat is then processed by the body's lymphatic and metabolic systems and eliminated naturally over the following weeks. The treatment is designed for localised, stubborn fat deposits that persist despite a healthy weight and active lifestyle — areas where genetics rather than excess body weight determine fat distribution. Common treatment sites include the submental area (double chin), jowl fat pads, bra fat, flanks (love handles), inner thighs, and small abdominal pockets. Aqualyx is not a weight-loss treatment and is not appropriate for patients with significant overall excess body fat. During the procedure, the physician marks the treatment area and injects the Aqualyx solution using a fine cannula, distributing it evenly throughout the targeted fat pad. Each area takes approximately 15-20 minutes to treat. Patients feel a burning or stinging sensation during injection that typically subsides within minutes.
