About

The Osypka Herzzentrum München (OHZ) is the cardiac imaging and treatment centre within the Internistisches Klinikum München Süd, a specialist internal medicine hospital at Am Isarkanal 36 in the Thalkirchen district of Munich. Founded in 2015 and staffed by approximately 380 healthcare professionals, the centre combines high-volume cardiac diagnostics with electrophysiology, arrhythmia treatment, and complex coronary interventions under one roof. The defining capability is the 640-slice Canon Aquilion ONE GENESIS CT scanner, described by the centre as the most advanced cardiac CT technology of its generation. Conventional cardiac CT scanners operate with 64 to 256 detector rows, requiring multiple heartbeats to cover the full cardiac volume. The 640-slice architecture covers the entire heart in a single gantry rotation during one diastolic pause, eliminating the stitching artefacts inherent to multi-beat acquisition and enabling diagnostic-quality imaging even in patients whose heart rate cannot be adequately slowed with beta-blocker preparation. Radiation dose is reduced substantially compared with standard multi-beat protocols. The cardiac CT service is led by PD Dr. Klaus Tiemann and Prof. Ley, specialists in cardiac imaging at the centre. The electrophysiology division is directed by Prof. Lewalter, internationally recognised for arrhythmia and ablation expertise. Patients are supported by a dedicated secretary team managing all outpatient CT appointments from Monday to Friday, with no long transit between imaging and clinical consultation — the scanner is integrated within the same facility as the cardiologists who interpret and act on the results. The centre accepts referrals from general practitioners and cardiologists throughout Munich and Bavaria, and is directly accessible from the U3 Thalkirchen stop. Visitor parking is available on site. Emergency patients are accepted around the clock.
