Porcelain veneers are thin, custom ceramic shells bonded to the front of the teeth to improve their colour, shape and alignment — a way to refine the appearance of the smile while keeping the work conservative. Each veneer is crafted by the clinic's own laboratory to a chosen shade and form. For smaller single-tooth corrections, a direct composite restoration is offered as a lower-cost, minimally invasive option.
Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin shells of dental ceramic that are bonded onto the visible surface of the front teeth to change their colour, shape, length or spacing. They are typically chosen for teeth that are discoloured and do not respond to whitening, are chipped or worn, are slightly crooked or rotated, or have small gaps between them. Because only a thin layer of the front of the tooth is usually adjusted to seat the veneer, the approach can be relatively conservative compared with full crowns. At OrtoImplant Clinic treatment starts with a discussion of the desired result, shade and shape, after which the teeth are lightly prepared and impressions taken. The veneers are then made by the clinic's own dental laboratory, where the ceramist controls the shade, translucency and surface detail to look natural; temporary veneers can be worn while the final ones are produced. At the fitting visit each veneer is tried in and bonded to the tooth with a strong adhesive. Porcelain resists staining well and is associated with a stable, natural-looking finish over time. For patients who only need a single tooth improved, the clinic offers a direct composite aesthetic restoration built up by hand in one visit, which is more affordable and removes little or no tooth structure. Veneers are a cosmetic treatment, so the dentist will confirm that the teeth and gums are healthy first and explain the upkeep involved; bonded ceramic can chip under heavy load, and habits such as grinding may call for a protective night splint. Suitability and the best material for each case are agreed at consultation.
