A titanium dental implant is placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth, providing a stable foundation for a later crown, bridge or denture. At OrtoImplant Clinic the procedure is carried out by an implantology and oral-surgery specialist, with in-house CBCT imaging used to plan the position. Where a failing tooth is being removed, an immediate implant can sometimes be placed in the same visit, and bone grafting or a sinus lift can be added when the available bone needs building up first.

About this treatment

Dental implant placement replaces the missing root of a tooth with a small titanium screw that is set into the jawbone. Over the following weeks the bone grows around the fixture in a process called osseointegration, after which it can carry a crown, bridge or implant-retained denture. The placement itself is usually done under local anaesthetic and, for a single site, typically takes around an hour.
