A titanium dental implant is placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth, providing a stable foundation for a later crown, bridge or denture. At OrtoImplant Clinic the procedure is carried out by an implantology and oral-surgery specialist, with in-house CBCT imaging used to plan the position. Where a failing tooth is being removed, an immediate implant can sometimes be placed in the same visit, and bone grafting or a sinus lift can be added when the available bone needs building up first.
Dental implant placement replaces the missing root of a tooth with a small titanium screw that is set into the jawbone. Over the following weeks the bone grows around the fixture in a process called osseointegration, after which it can carry a crown, bridge or implant-retained denture. At OrtoImplant Clinic this stage is performed by a specialist in oral surgery and implantology, and the clinic's own cone-beam CT scanner is used beforehand to assess bone volume and plan the implant's position away from nerves and the sinus. The placement itself is usually done under local anaesthetic and, for a single site, typically takes around an hour. When a damaged tooth is being extracted, it is sometimes possible to place an implant immediately into the socket during the same appointment, which the clinic prices the same as a standard placement. If the bone is too thin or shallow, a guided bone regeneration procedure or a sinus lift may be carried out first or at the same time to create a stable base. A healing period generally follows before the final restoration is fitted, with a temporary solution available in the interim where appropriate. Dental implants may support better chewing function and help preserve the surrounding bone compared with leaving a gap, and they are associated with high long-term success when maintained well. Suitability depends on general health, gum condition and bone quality, all of which are reviewed at consultation; good oral hygiene and regular hygiene visits are important to the long-term outcome.
