Dental CBCT (3D Cone-Beam Scan)

Type

CT Scan

Duration

20 min

A cone-beam CT (CBCT) scan produces a detailed three-dimensional image of the teeth, jawbone, nerves and sinuses using OrtoImplant Clinic's in-house scanner. It is central to safe implant, surgical and endodontic planning and to assessing impacted teeth, letting the clinical team measure bone and locate vital structures before treatment. Conventional 2D panoramic and cephalometric X-rays are also available on site.

Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a specialised dental scan that captures a three-dimensional view of the hard tissues of the mouth and face — the teeth, the jawbones, the nerve canals and the sinuses — at far higher detail than a standard flat X-ray. OrtoImplant Clinic has a CBCT scanner on site, which means three-dimensional imaging can be taken and reviewed as part of planning without referring patients elsewhere. The scan is quick and non-invasive: the machine rotates around the head while the patient sits or stands still for a short time, and uses a focused, comparatively low radiation dose for the three-dimensional information it provides. CBCT is particularly valuable for implant planning, where precise bone height and width and the exact position of nerves and the sinus floor determine where an implant can safely be placed; for assessing impacted teeth such as wisdom teeth before surgery; and for complex root canal cases where the fine anatomy of the roots is hard to judge on a 2D image. The clinic prices scans by how much is captured — a single segment, one arch, or both arches — so imaging can be matched to the clinical need. Alongside CBCT, the in-house radiology suite provides 2D panoramic (OPG) views, which give a broad overview of all the teeth and jaws, and cephalometric X-rays used in orthodontic assessment. All imaging is requested and interpreted by the treating clinician as part of diagnosis and planning, and is only taken when it will meaningfully inform care.
