A dental crown is a custom-made cap that covers a damaged, heavily filled or root-treated tooth to restore its strength, shape and appearance. Treatment generally takes two visits. At the first, the tooth is prepared by removing decay and shaping it to receive the crown, an impression or digital scan is taken, and a temporary crown is fitted. The laboratory then fabricates the crown to the agreed shade and form.
