A venous blood draw screening for three major blood-borne sexually transmitted infections: HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B. Results are delivered the next business day. This panel covers the blood-borne pathogens that are not detectable through urine or swab tests.
While chlamydia and gonorrhoea are detected through localised swabs or urine samples, HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B circulate in the bloodstream and require a venous blood draw for reliable detection. This panel screens for all three in a single draw, covering the major blood-borne STIs that Dutch and international public health guidelines recommend as part of a thorough sexual health assessment. HIV testing uses a fourth-generation combination assay that detects both antibodies and the p24 antigen, providing earlier detection than older antibody-only methods. Syphilis screening identifies antibodies to Treponema pallidum, and hepatitis B testing detects the surface antigen (HBsAg) indicating active infection. Each of these infections can be asymptomatic for extended periods while remaining transmissible, making proactive screening particularly important. The panel is processed by the Reinier Haga MDC laboratory under ISO 15189 accreditation. Results are typically available the next business day. Reactive results on any marker trigger a follow-up consultation with a clinic physician to discuss confirmatory testing and treatment pathways. This panel pairs naturally with the chlamydia and gonorrhoea swab test for a comprehensive STI screen covering both localised and systemic infections.
