This test measures ceruloplasmin levels in your blood. It is a protein that binds to copper and helps it move throughout your body. It's primarily used to diagnose and monitor Wilson's disease, a genetic disorder causing copper buildup. Caeruloplasmin levels can also indicate other conditions like Menkes disease, chronic liver disease, and certain anemias. Elevated levels may be seen in inflammation or pregnancy; low levels are often associated with Wilson's disease. Your doctor may order this test with others for a complete copper metabolism assessment.
