Type
MRI Scan
Duration
30 min
A magnetic-resonance scan of the neck portion of the spine, imaging the cervical vertebrae, discs, spinal cord and nerve roots without radiation. It is frequently requested for neck pain, stiffness or symptoms such as tingling that travel into the arms or hands. At OMEGA the study is performed on a 1.5 Tesla scanner, is non-contrast at the standard price, and usually takes around 20 to 30 minutes. A specialist radiologist reviews the images and provides a written report, with a faster turnaround available on request.
Magnetic resonance imaging of the cervical spine creates detailed, radiation-free images of the uppermost section of the spine in the neck, including the small cervical vertebrae, the intervertebral discs, the spinal cord itself and the nerve roots that branch off towards the shoulders and arms. Its sensitivity to soft tissue makes it a common investigation when neck pain or stiffness persists, or when symptoms such as tingling, numbness or weakness are felt in the arms or hands. At OMEGA the scan is carried out on a new-generation General Electric Signa Creator 1.5 Tesla system. You lie on your back with your head and neck supported while the table advances into the scanner, and you wear ear protection because the imaging sequences are noisy. Remaining still helps keep the images crisp, and a cervical study typically takes about 20 to 30 minutes. The standard 690 zł price is for a non-contrast examination, which answers most questions about discs and degenerative change; contrast is added only in particular circumstances and is priced separately when the radiologist advises it. The centre provides self-pay imaging with transparent fixed prices and short waiting times, and private bookings need no referral. After the examination a specialist radiologist interprets the images and issues a written report, generally within a few working days, with images supplied on CD and an optional expedited 48-hour report for an additional fee. This is general educational information only and is not a substitute for guidance from your own doctor about whether the scan is right for you.
