Type
MRI Scan
Duration
40 min
A magnetic-resonance scan of the abdomen that images the liver, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, adrenal glands and surrounding soft tissues in detail without radiation. It is often requested to characterise findings seen on ultrasound or CT, or to assess organs in finer detail. At OMEGA the study is performed on a 1.5 Tesla scanner and frequently uses intravenous contrast for full assessment. A typical scan takes around 30 to 40 minutes, after which a specialist radiologist reviews the images and provides a written report.
An MRI of the abdomen produces detailed, radiation-free cross-sectional images of the upper abdominal organs — the liver, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, adrenal glands and the surrounding vessels and soft tissue. Because magnetic resonance distinguishes between different soft tissues so well, it is often used as a problem-solving examination: to look more closely at something first noticed on an ultrasound or CT, to characterise a focal finding, or to assess an organ in greater detail than other methods allow. At OMEGA the scan is performed on a new-generation General Electric Signa Creator 1.5 Tesla system. You lie on your back on the scanner table and will be asked to hold your breath for short periods during some sequences, as this reduces motion and sharpens the images of the upper abdomen; ear protection is provided for the noise. Abdominal MRI commonly involves an intravenous contrast agent to show the organs and any findings through different phases, so the radiologist may request a recent creatinine result first, which the centre can arrange on site. A full abdominal study typically takes about 30 to 40 minutes, a little longer when contrast is used. The published 800 zł price is for the self-pay scan with fixed, transparent pricing; contrast is charged separately when needed. You can book privately without a referral, and waiting times are short. After the examination a specialist radiologist interprets the images and prepares a written report, usually within a few working days, with the images supplied on CD and an optional expedited 48-hour report for an additional fee. This is general information only and does not replace advice from your own physician about whether the scan is appropriate for you.

800 zł for an MRI of the abdomen. Related single-organ studies — pancreas, kidneys and adrenal glands, spleen, liver region — are also 800 zł. Intravenous contrast (230 zł, or 280 zł for a larger dose) is frequently used for abdominal imaging when the radiologist recommends it.
