A computed-tomography scan of the heart that uses X-rays, with image timing synchronised to the heartbeat, to produce detailed images of the heart and its vessels. Cardiac CT is used as a non-invasive way to image the heart's structures and coronary arteries. At OMEGA the scan is performed on a 16-slice CT system and typically uses intravenous contrast. The appointment is a little longer than a standard CT, and a specialist radiologist reviews the images and provides a written report.

About this treatment

Cardiac CT, sometimes called Cardio-CT, uses a CT scanner with image acquisition synchronised to the heartbeat (ECG gating) to capture detailed, motion-controlled images of the heart and the coronary arteries that supply it. It is a non-invasive imaging method used to look at the heart's structures and vessels, and at OMEGA it is also offered within combined cardiology check-up packages for people who want a broader cardiac assessment. As with any cardiac…

The examination is performed on a Hitachi Eclos 16-slice CT system. You lie on your back on the scanner table with ECG leads attached so the images can be timed to your heartbeat, and you will be asked to hold your breath for a short period while the heart is scanned. A cardiac CT almost always uses an intravenous iodinated contrast agent to show the coronary vessels, so a recent creatinine result may be requested beforehand, which the centre can arrange;…

The published 990 zł price is for the self-pay cardiac CT with transparent fixed pricing, with combined cardiology packages available from 1,700 zł; contrast may be charged separately. Private bookings require no referral and waiting times are short. After the scan a specialist radiologist interprets the images and prepares a written report, usually within a few working days, with images supplied on CD. This is general educational information only and is…

Examinations are performed and reported by radiology specialists at the OMEGA imaging centre. Scans use a new-generation General Electric Signa Creator 1.5 Tesla MRI and a Hitachi Eclos 16-slice CT scanner; an anaesthesiologist is available for sedation or general anaesthesia where a scan requires it.
