Type
CT Scan
Duration
15 min
A computed-tomography scan of the chest, including a high-resolution (HRCT) technique, that uses X-rays to produce detailed images of the lungs, airways and surrounding structures. HRCT is particularly used for detailed assessment of the lung tissue. At OMEGA the scan is performed on a 16-slice CT system, is non-contrast at the standard price, and takes only a few minutes. A specialist radiologist reviews the images and provides a written report, with a faster turnaround available on request.
A CT scan of the chest uses X-rays and computer reconstruction to create detailed cross-sectional images of the lungs, airways, the central mediastinum and the chest wall. The high-resolution CT (HRCT) technique offered here acquires especially fine, thin-section images of the lung tissue itself, which is why it is the method often used when detailed assessment of the lungs is required. CT is fast and well suited to the chest because it freezes motion within a short breath-hold. At OMEGA the examination is performed on a Hitachi Eclos 16-slice CT system. You lie on your back on the table, which moves through the ring-shaped scanner, and you will be asked to hold your breath for a few seconds while the images are taken, as this keeps the lungs still and sharp. The scanning itself takes only a few minutes. A standard chest CT is non-contrast at the listed price; in some cases — for example, to assess vessels or characterise a finding — the radiologist may recommend an intravenous iodinated contrast agent, which is priced separately and may require a recent creatinine result that the centre can arrange. Because CT uses ionising radiation, it is performed when the clinical benefit justifies it. The published 490 zł price is for the self-pay chest CT with transparent fixed pricing; contrast, if needed, is charged separately. Private bookings need no referral and waiting times are short. After the scan a specialist radiologist interprets the images and prepares a written report, usually within a few working days, with images supplied on CD and an optional expedited 24-hour report for an additional fee. This is general information only and does not replace advice from your own doctor about whether the examination is right for you.
