Compression Therapy
Duration
30 min
A pneumatic compression therapy session using inflatable leg sleeves that sequentially inflate and deflate to stimulate lymphatic drainage, reduce fluid retention, and improve venous return in the lower limbs.
Pressotherapy (also known as pneumatic compression therapy or intermittent pneumatic compression) uses a specialised device consisting of inflatable sleeves — typically covering the legs from feet to upper thighs — that contain multiple overlapping air chambers. These chambers inflate and deflate in a sequential, wave-like pattern from the distal extremity (feet/ankles) toward the proximal trunk (upper thighs/hips), mechanically pushing lymphatic fluid and venous blood in the direction of natural physiological flow. The sequential compression mimics and amplifies the body's own lymphatic and venous pumping mechanisms. The lymphatic system, which has no central pump, normally relies on skeletal muscle contraction and breathing to move lymph fluid through its network of vessels and nodes. In sedentary individuals, those with impaired circulation, or after prolonged standing or travel, lymphatic flow slows and fluid accumulates in the lower extremities — manifesting as heavy legs, ankle swelling, and a general sense of sluggishness. Pressotherapy is widely used in sports medicine for post-exercise recovery — professional athletic teams and endurance athletes use pneumatic compression boots to accelerate the clearance of metabolic waste products from leg muscles after training. The mechanical compression reduces delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS), decreases recovery time between sessions, and may improve subsequent performance. The treatment has also gained popularity in aesthetic and wellness settings for its effects on cellulite reduction and body contouring, as improved lymphatic drainage helps reduce the fluid component of cellulite appearance. At 100 PLN (approximately €23) for a 30-minute session, pressotherapy at Oasis Beauty & Spa is exceptionally affordable and works well as a complement to manual massage treatments. Many clients book pressotherapy alongside a sports massage or lymphatic drainage session for a comprehensive recovery protocol.
