SmartLipo (Laser-Assisted Liposuction)

SmartLipo uses a thin laser fibre inserted under the skin to liquefy fat cells and stimulate collagen coagulation for concurrent skin tightening. Often performed under local anaesthesia, making it suitable for smaller, targeted areas where traditional liposuction may be more invasive than necessary. Sessions run one to four hours depending on treatment zones.

SmartLipo at NYC Lipo uses laser-assisted lipolysis technology — a thin (1 mm) optical fibre inserted through tiny 1–2 mm incisions delivers laser energy directly into the subcutaneous fat layer, causing photothermal disruption of fat cell membranes and liquefaction of the surrounding adipose tissue. The liquefied fat is then aspirated through a fine cannula. Unlike traditional and VASER liposuction, SmartLipo typically requires only local anaesthesia (tumescent technique), with patients remaining awake but sedated; this profile makes it especially appropriate for smaller, more discrete areas such as the chin and neck, inner arms, inner knees, and focal abdominal irregularities where full general anaesthesia is disproportionate to the scope of work. A significant additional benefit of the laser component is its thermal effect on the overlying dermis: the heat from the laser fibre as it passes superficially near the undersurface of the skin stimulates collagen denaturation and subsequent neocollagenesis, producing a degree of skin coagulation and tightening that passive suction-only techniques cannot replicate. This collagen stimulation response develops over three to six months post-procedure and is particularly valuable in areas where skin retraction is a concern — the inner arm, inner thigh, and submental neck region.
